Nothing in particular a lot of times. Other times, specific things. This time it was specific. I wanted a new front door. Have you priced exterior doors at Home Depot or Lowe's lately? Yeah - the door I wanted was #1 Special Order and #2 $1200! Sorry, but no.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">In reality I need THREE new front doors. My mission has been for Robin's Nest because it still has the door from when it was a rental cabin - the kind for a key card! Once we tried to take that clunky thing out - only to find that there was a giant rectangular hole in the door. So I ordered an Oil Rubbed Bronze wrap around plate to cover the hole and put in a regular door knob. Would you believe it wouldn't cover the whole hole? Naturally the clunky card reader was reinstalled. Yay.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I wanted a door with glass at the top to let in some extra light because the living area is rather dark. Funny how that happens when the floor, ceiling and walls are all wood. I would have loved a full glass door, but since we aren't there all the time, I fear it would be broken into more easily. I'm a huge fan of Craftsman style - mid-century modern in pretty much any aspect.

Here's the door I wanted. It's a 6 lite Craftsman solid wood door slab. I didn't want pre-hung. I didn't want steel. I didn't want fiberglass. I just wanted a wood door.

So I happened to be in Craig's List on my lunch break at work a few days before we were leaving for vacation and HOLY CRAP! What do I run across? THIS!

So I get home, check my door sizes and immediately e-mail this person. Yes, the doors are still available. I'm interested, what is your schedule tomorrow and where are you located? No response. The next day I respond again - I'm really interested in both of these doors, can I come see them? Call me <cell number="">. Half hour later, he calls. Set up a time to meet him the next day - with cash. Mr. Paisley has to meet the termite inspector at the Cottage so I set it up for after that - either way, I'll be at work until after dark. Go figure, the termite guy is late. He finally turns up "yep, that's termites" (no kidding...I know it's termites - you've been treating them for like 3 years now - it's clearly not working - when do we do something that WILL work? To which he says "technicians cannot schedule treatment, I'll put in a work order and a supervisor will come out to verify and then schedule the treatment" SERIOUSLY? TWO more appointments? WTH Massey....WTH. Stay tuned supervisor will be here tomorrow...). Mr. P comes home with the doors. I am beyond giddy. You really have no idea. First - minus the dental molding, they're the doors I wanted. Second, these doors - I can't even tell you what they cost, but I would bet more than ordering them from Home Depot. They were custom ordered from this site Buffelen Door out of Tacoma, WA (according to the bright orange stickers on the glass). This is a "design your door online and we'll send you a quote" place. They have some amazing options! Third...$200. $200 for TWO DOORS! Score much? Yeah...I know!</cell>

So the next day we load up the larger one to go to the cabin and voila! It's installed with a smart lock. It was too cold to stain it on this trip, but we will do it next time. It's under a covered deck anyway so it's out of the weather. It's seriously amazing.

I made a quick no-sew curtain for it as well, but that will be another post. I don't want the windows covered, but at the same time, when we aren't there on a daily basis I don't want everyone looking in either...~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-75777154414788800482016-03-06T18:14:00.001-05:002016-03-06T18:14:42.620-05:00Update!Just a quick Whole30 update - I can say with 100% certainty that we have NOT been strict with eating Whole30 since mid-February. We just got home from a 10 day vacation and trust me when I say we were way off track.

I guess I should clarify. I had toast with breakfast. Sometimes breakfast was eggs and cheese on toast. Basically, there was bread every day. Though I will say it wasn't all day, every day. We ate canned chili. And Fritos (which are actually more or less OK - "fried" being the only downside). We had dessert one night - it was actually the 2nd day when we met some friends at our favorite steakhouse. It wasn't worth it in my opinion. Not as good as I remember. I wouldn't order my "usual" again for sure.

My downfall was sweet tea. Because we took one of the iguanas with us, we were pretty limited for meals along the way. Fast food...have you ever tried to get them to give you the BIG cup of water? Good luck with that. I really wanted to stay away from soda and artificial sweeteners so I went with sweet tea. Then I bought 2 gallons of it instead of sticking to water and juice all week.

I've had nothing but water since we got home. I missed it. Really!

This morning I was thrilled to hop on the scale and find the same 3 pounds that had come back BEFORE we left. That's 2 points for not gaining any more weight back. I'm going to work really hard at getting those 3 pounds off this week. I'm pretty sure I can do it.

I also have to get my blood work done this week as my first follow up appointment with my "new" doctor is at the end of the month. Looking forward to the results!

That's a first...~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-27529402980865778902016-02-22T06:50:00.000-05:002016-02-22T06:50:17.175-05:00Whole 30 update<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Well, it took<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> 4 days, but I<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> lost the 3+ pounds I gained from ONE DAY of carb loading. It's funny (not really<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">) how losing weight while eating Whole 30 compliant was <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">a fra<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">cti<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">on of a pound per day, yet <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I load up on carbs on reintro gluten day and BAM 3 pounds overnight. Retaining water? Probably. Bloated? De<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">finitely.
Do you know what that means? We're done. Officially done with our first Whole30.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We followed the 10 day reintroduction schedule and today is our last "2nd Whole30 day" after the last reintroduction.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We ended up going out for dinner. Sharon's again - because it's easy.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I got up late so I didn't have enough time to make breakfast and lunch (food prep people, I'm telling you it's the key to success with eating this way) so I made lunch and at 2/3 of it for breakfast when I got to the office. Then went to Outback with a couple of co-workers. I had the usual...only I changed it up and had them GRILL the steak - still plain though.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Breakfast was chicken salad. I added a Fuji apple, dried, unsweetened cranberries, and slivered almonds.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">At some point I also ate 2 unsweetened applesauce cups and a Larabar...oh and a fruit snack thing.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">One thing to note - I have gained back 3 pounds since gluten grain reintroduction day. With all the carbs I ate in one day - I'm not even a little surprised.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Mr. P. did sort of surprise me last night on the way home from dinner saying he wasn't opposed to continuing to eat this way for the most part - but "I will not be giving up beer" LOL. Fine. I'll take it!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I suppose I'm going to just try to slip back into Whole30 here and get those 3 pounds back off and do my best to food prep on Sundays. I admit - I would have had time for breakfast yesterday if I had actually shredded my chicken and made the chicken salad in advance - oh and portioned it out into grab and go containers. Mr. P. has been taking his pretty regularly.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I have a 3 day weekend coming up. I think I will do a full clean out of the fridge - add the new shelf liner that I bought a while back and get rid of things we won't be using anymore. Set yourself up for success and you can do it...right?

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">This will probably be my last daily update. I will continue to share new Whole30 recipes that we try, any new observations, challenges, and successes as well.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"> ~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-74207962442524820952016-02-12T06:55:00.000-05:002016-02-12T06:55:16.595-05:00Reintro Day 10<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Well...it looks like I will be limiting my grain intake from here on out. Lord have mercy...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Bloating

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Gas

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Diarrhea

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Stomach (intestines I assume) ache

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> I have a feeling I did not eat enough legumes to find out of I have any issue with them. Specifically beans. I will probably do another reintro day with them for myself.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Remember this gem? Pretty much me this morning<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Pass the Pepto...I have to go to work.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">On the plus side - I'm pretty sure "the sickness" is just about done hanging around. I'm not coughing much at all now - mostly when I let my throat get dry. I know I haven't been drinking enough water the last few days. My eyes are much better although as a whole they don't look so good. From rubbing and wiping and 'crying' my flesh is red, raw and I actually have a couple of small zits. Too much touching, not enough cleaning I guess. I'm sure it will clear up over the LONG WEEKEND. WOO HOO - I am so excited about having a 3 days weekend.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So I got up at 6am, spent some quality time in the <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">bathroom, washed my face and<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> all that morn<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ing routine type crap<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> and went to tackle the mountain of dishes. Yes I left BOTH sides <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">of the sink full of dir<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ty dishes. Why? Because I <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">had already unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher once yesterday and I didn't feel like doing it again. Truth be told, I didn't feel like doing it this morning either. Somehow Mr. P. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">has a 30 minute morning routine and I have a 2 hour morning routine. Mine ha<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">s nothing to do with girly stuff either. I'm a pro at multi-tasking. I swipe <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">my face and neck with a peel pad and go about getting the critters <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">rotated in and out of the shower<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, wash my face, pat dry and moisturize while someone is still in the shower, b<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">y the time shower du<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ty is done my face is dry and I can put <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">on my make-up which takes 5 minutes tops. Plenty of red lights to sit at on <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">the way <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">to the office... I'm super efficient at getting dressed too. Typically when it's 'cold' like it has been - it's leggings and a tunic or leggings and a dress - both with boots. Again, pretty much a 5 minute<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> event. Then it's on to feeding the critters, opening the blinds in their room, packing my lunch, making my brea<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">kfast, doing th<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">e dishes from someone else making their breakfast, unloading the dish<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">washer if it's full, putting out the mail if there is any, getting the paper if it's delivery day, and separating the trash/recycle <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">carts because I have a neighbor who is insist<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ant on putting hers across the street with our but she doesn't follow the rules. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">We ha<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ve an <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">a<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">utomat<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ed truck now - it goes down the street and has a gra<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">b<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ber <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">claw that picks up the <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">bin and dumps it. Nope - she puts i<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">t right <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">up against ours. Plus several 24 oz cups of water.

I went to the Super Wal-mart that’s next door to my office because I needed some hair color, light bulbs, milk and a new air purifier. I ended up getting a cheap pack of toothbrushes for cleaning, a new battery op toothbrush for my drawer at work, a couple of pairs of leggings for Georgia and new wiper blades for my Jeep. Holy crap – when did wiper blades get so expensive?! I also picked up a 2 pack of filters for my air purifier. I’ve been sleeping with the TV on because my old one died Monday night. I can’t sleep when it’s quiet. Lucky for me Mr. P. has been sleeping in the guest room since I’m sick. He could never sleep with the TV on – not with the light, not with the sound.
SO EXCITED!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I decided to stay home from work again today. Since I no longer have a private office, I don't want to be running out the door every 5 minutes to hack my brains out with the coughing. It's COLD today. I put on leggings, socks, sneakers and a 3/4 sleeve sweatshirt today and I've still be curled up under a blanket on the couch most of the day.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I did finish up some laundry as well as do dishes...what's new? When aren't I doing dishes?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I made a couple of sandwich steaks this morning, with 3 organic, cage free eggs (scrambled), and 2 slices of delicious, buttered, sourdough toast. I even took a pretty picture!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">For lunch I made gluten free mac n cheese - only I used vanilla coffee creamer because I didn't have milk. I threw it out. There's something very wrong about sweet mac n cheese. So gross. I had 2 more slices of toast and 2 squares of dark coconut chocolate from my Lindt bar from Christmas. It was the last 2 squares. I was a little sad.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mr. P. got home early in the afternoon and wanted to know what kind of pasta I wanted for dinner LOL. So I googled and found a garlic butter pasta recipe. We might add shrimp and/or scallops. He happily went off to Publix and like 45 minutes later (he went for pasta, bread, green beans and sandwich steaks - and Publix is literally walking distance from the house) he comes back with a baguette to make garlic bread, sandwich steaks, pasta, 2 packages of crackers, and frozen green beans. Apparently he was reading labels.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This morning I was down 17.8 pounds. I'm afraid of tomorrow's check in...carbs have never been good to me and after my first piece of toast this morning, I could have made and eaten the entire loaf.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I had a handful of 3 ingredient Triscuits. I don't remember the last time I had them, but boy were they good!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Here's the Buttery Garlic Pasta recipe from Uncle Jerry's Kitchen. We added shrimp<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">. It was delicious! Not to mention simple and quick. GREAT meal for those nights you forget to take something out of the freezer.
I'm still not back to 100% so...

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Breakfast was a Larabar.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Lunch was chicken salad with homemade mayo, dried cranberries (unsweetened) and a diced Fuji apple. I also had a fruit cup.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Dinner was OUT. We went to Sharon's and we both got a 4oz burger patty, 2 over medium eggs and home fries (no butter, made on the griddle).

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Oh - I may have had 2 squares of dark chocolate with coconut from a Lindt bar that my husband put in my Christmas stocking. I still have 2/3 of it, plus a mini Toblerone bar, a 2 pack of peanut butter cup trees and another whole chocolate bar that I can't remember. Once upon a time I would have wolfed down a whole bar in nothing flat. Two squares of dark chocolate is perfect.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Tonight was a grilled bologna special night at Sharon's. Man did I want it. It used to be on their menu as a sandwich. It came as a thick slice of grilled bologna with American cheese, mayo and a grilled, buttered bun with sesame seeds. OMG. It's a southern staple y'all! They also had coconut cream french toast!
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Alas - tomorrow is grain day! Pasta and bread oh my! Mr. P. plans on having beer. Personally I don't put that under grain....but whatever.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">The best thing about today - minus not having to do dinner dishes - was a BAT! Mr. P. rescued a tiny little evening bat at work. It didn't appear to have any injuries at all, but it was awful cold and damp yesterday - raining off an one. My guess is that the poor little guy got all wet and cold and just couldn't make it home. He was balled up on the driveway at Mr. P's place of work - which thankfully doesn't have much traffic - and what traffic it does have, is controlled by security badge access. Poor little guy could have been run over! Luckily, the hubs is always keeping an eye out for the critters and rescues one critter or another on a daily basis. Typically it's snakes, frogs, and lizards that get into gear boxes or in the building. So this tiny little guy got to ride around half the day in a nice warm box in the truck. Eventually I got a hold of our local wildlife rescuer and she does take bats so he met up with her and passed off this ridiculously cute little creature. She assessed him and said he's good to go, probably cold and rain. She's going to keep him a few days to let him rest and get him fed on the regular and then we can let him go.
I slept fairly well last night, though I am guessing that from being all stuffed up that I was probably snoring - Mr. P. moved to the guest room some time during the night. Oops. Things should be back to normal in a couple of days.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">My eyes are still a watery mess, but I'm not 100% stuffed up. I managed to get myself dressed and run to Super Target to do some grocery shopping. I rarely go there to shop, but there was no way I was going to venture to BJs and Aldi and Publix. Not quite up to that task just yet. It took way longer than it should have to get what I got, BUT - I ran into my brother's family there so I got to see my little sunshine birthday girl.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I scored some great deals too - they had grass-fed ground beef marked down $3 off - and it was already on sale. So I got $7.49/lb for $3.49/lb. I got a roast that was also $3 off, a whole chicken for $3 off and a couple of packs of chicken tenders $2 off each. They also had a mobile coupon for $5/$25 in meat/seafood. Cha-ching! They also had the organic eggs marked down to $2/dozen (regularly $4.89) - I got 3 dozen and they were an additional 5% off with Cartwheel. Pretty much everything I picked up ended up having a Cartwheel deal and in the end I got 5% off all of it with my Target RedCard debit card.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Not that I'm keeping track (ha ha) but -17 pounds this morning - 37 days. Not bad for not dieting.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">It's 2:30pm as I write this post and the only thing I have had to eat today is half a leftover white grape juice pop and a Larabar.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I tossed a bunch of chicken in the crock this morning - with chicken stock, carrots and some leftover chopped onion. The house smelled divine when I came in from Target...and that's with a stuffy nose!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I also found a compliant chicken stock at Target! Pretty sure it was my reward for getting my arse out of the house.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I'm going to make some skillet potatoes for lunch and then I'll get to work on packing lunches for the week. I portioned out black olives for Mr. P. yesterday - and I got him a jar of compliant sauerkraut today (go figure the jar I bought just before we started all of this has white wine in it. Really?!) I wonder if he's tired of hot dogs and sauerkraut with olives and fruit every day? Yesterday I noticed his weight loss. He put on a t-shirt that was an XL and it fit. He typically goes for the XXL because so many are "slim fit" these days.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mr. P. has been working all weekend and been all over town to do it. Luckily I caught him before he was in Dr. Phillips so I could get him to run into Whole Foods. We are about out of Coconut Aminos. Well...I guess I wasn't specific enough when I said it was in the condiment section, has a palm tree on the label and a gold wrapper over the cap. He came home with the same bottle only with a red wrapper and while it does say Coconut Aminos, it also says Teriyaki Sauce. At least it seems to be compliant. I guess I will order the huge jug on Amazon. It's the only way it's affordable. Seriously - this is like the one product that I can get cheaper at a local health food store. Except that we don't really have one nearby. We used to have a Chamberlains, but it went away. I did hear that they are moving back though. Although no idea where - it might not be convenient either.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Well - I forgot to take a picture of dinner. Sorry! Since Mr. P. bought teriyaki sauce, I used some of my awesome deal chicken tenders and half a can of pineapple chunks to make a teriyaki chicken dish - served it over zoodles. Huge plus - ONE PAN. Dirtied 2 plates, 2 forks, 1 knife, a spatula and a pan. WOO HOO!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

The coughing is horrible. The congestion is wicked.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I have taken allergy medication, Mucinex DM, DayQuil, NyQuil...none of it works. None of it even helps a little bit.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Today I am exhausted. I got up at 4am because of the coughing. Mr. P. has to work all weekend so I didn't want to keep him up all night. I got up and tried to sleep sitting up on the couch (to keep my nose cleared up) and gave up. Spent almost 2 hours sitting at the computer playing mindless games and drinking hot apple juice.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Eventually went back to bed just before Mr. P. got up. Immediately started coughing.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">When I got up, I wasn't particularly hungry...but I made some sweet potato Yukon Gold hash with salt, pepper and paprika. Then I ate half a white grape juice pop. The silicone molds I have are pretty big. Then I remembered it's DAIRY DAY! I might make a cheese omelet for lunch.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher. Tossed a load of laundry in...so much to do, but my head feels like it's going to explode so I prefer to just sit somewhere and be miserable vs. get up and do stuff and be extra miserable.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I noticed I am very burp-y the last two day. Not sure if it's from the La Croix sparkling water or breathing thru my mouth and this damn cold.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Today also happens to be my little sweetpea's 5th birthday! I can't believe that tiny little baby girl is 5 years old. She's super smart, extra spunky and is (usually) the sweetest little - well not so little - girl. Her party was held at a small local chocolate place and the kids got to make their own candy.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I never got around to the cheese omelet. Wasn't really hungry and didn't have the energy to do it. I did eat 2 cheese sticks.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mr. Paisley went out and got us Freddy's for dinner. I had a triple steakburger with cheese (hold the bun and no condiments), we split a large order of fries (they're shoestring fries and they were extra salty so I only ate a few - I'm not a big fan of salt - even though I constantly buy fancy varieties) and since it's DAIRY DAY - we got vanilla frozen custard. It was delicious - probably would have been to die for if I could have actually tasted it. I also had half a can of La Croix with some apple juice.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So far so good - no tummy troubles. Thank God - I love cheese. And ice cream. And cheese...all kinds of cheese. Did I mention I love cheese?
If memory serves me...we get DAIRY on Saturday and they suggest ICE CREAM! I am so jumping on that wagon. I really want that right now...stupid sore throat!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Woke up still sick this morning. One eye was glued shut, my mouth was bone dry and my nose was crusty and stuffed up. Oh and my throat still hurts. I woke up 30 minutes before my 6am alarm. I didn't even try to go back to sleep. I got up and hit the shower on full steam to try to clear out my nose and pry my eye open. I washed my hair with Wen Winter Vanilla Mint which not only has a nice tingle, but the mint helped open up my nose as well. That said, I don't really feel any better. I can barely speak and I've already slowly sipped a full 24oz Tervis full of water to try and soothe my throat. It works...as long as I just keep drinking. I've been googling Whole30 remedies for sore throats. They're all over the map. I'm kind of thinking that technically I'm well past the 30 days so I might very well cave and make hot tea with honey. Plus down a glass of hot water and apple cider vinegar. Yum (not...) and gargle with lemon salt water (also yum...no, not really). I'm also starving. I don't think I've gotten up and had my stomach rumbling and growling at me since I started. I think I'm going to make scrambled eggs with my sandwich steak this morning.

My throat is starting to feel a bit better. I did have my hot tea and honey - though I didn't finish the whole mug...really only about half. I did have scrambled eggs and sandwich steak for breakfast and for lunch I had a couple more sandwich steaks and a bowl of fried (?) plantains. They were ok, but not the greatest. I doubt Mr. P. would like them and they're a bit pricey $6.99 a bag at Aldi - they are name brand though. I don't think I'll buy them again.

I managed to unload the dishwasher and reload it - surprise, it's full again. I hate to use paper products when there's no need for it, but the never ending dishes waiting to be done is ridiculous. Although really...all it would save is 2 dinner plates so I guess there isn't much point to using paper plates to try to make less dishes.

Later that day....

I spent 30 minutes in the hot tub - then I got rained on. The heat cleared up my nose for a little while. My throat has stopped hurting, however my mouth is dry because I can't breathe thru my nose. While I was napping it dawned on me that I should freeze some juice in my freezer pop molds. DUH. Why the heck didn't I think of that yesterday?! I have 2 white grape juice pops in the freezer right now. Can't wait to have one! I also made an appointment for Kahlua. She's my only lizard that doesn't freak out about going to the V-E-T. I'll take her to work with me tomorrow and stop on the way home. We think she might be gravid. Because she had metabolic bone disease laying eggs will be difficult for her. She can't use one of her back legs because it's fused at the hip socket (it was broken and not treated by a former owner), her hips are really narrow, and her spine is crooked - all from poor diet and lack of proper care. She's the sweetest thing for having such a crappy life pre-Paisley Cottage.

Confession. I couldn't wait on my pops to freeze. I ate an old orange freezer pop from last Memorial Day. Full of sugar. I won't eat another one, but it was so nice...the juice ones will be even better!

Dinner was a thrown together stir fry. Coconut aminos, salad shrimp, assorted leftover veggies from the week, zoodles, cabbage and cashews. I added spicy cashew sauce to mine. Also had a cranberry apple La Croix sparkling water mixed with some cranberry pomegranate juice.
Today we g<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ot to have non-gluten grains. So we <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">were going to have rice and corn<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, but...we ended up skipping the rice. I was going to do oatmeal<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> for breakfast but then I realized that I make it with brown sugar and I usually top it with a splash of heavy whipping cream<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">- so that didn't happen either.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> was<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> super excited about corn - not because I missed <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">it but damn I'm tired of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and sugar snap peas. Squash and zucchini prices here are through the roof right now. Asparagus is only slightly better. I don't care for either cooked from frozen, so fresh or nothing for that. Green beans I just haven't been to Publix to <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">restock.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mr. P. is hanging in there. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">He's down 15 pounds and I'm down 13. That's according to our scale - which is probabl<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">y fa<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">irly accurate for him because he's<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> been using it, even though it wasn't w<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">orking for awhile. <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Who know on mine. A few more weeks and we'll see.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So for breakfast I went with the usual. Again I overcooked the eggs, but not as bad. They were<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> mostly edible.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Lunch was chicken salad and a Larabar.
WTH?! First <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">it's very, very rare that I get sick. Second, <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">30+ days of<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> REAL, WHOLE, SUPER NUTRITIO<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">US FOOD and I end up sick? I woke up with a sore throat, figured with the temps bouncing all over the ma<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">p here in Florida it was <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">having the fan and AC back on (seriously, it's been <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">85 degrees the last 2 days<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> and now we're back to 60s and 70s for a while). <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Well - not the case. By noon it hadn't gone away and <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">while it was 76 <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">degrees in the office<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> I was <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">fine, then freezing, fine, then freezing. Totally felt like I had a fever. So I went home. According to my digital thermome<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ter I was below normal (which is normal for me). I couldn't deal with the sore throat any longer, so I popped 2 DayQuil <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">li<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">qui<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">d gel <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">and hoped for some relief. Didn't help. I wanted hot tea with honey<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, but we aren't to the sugar point yet. I found some sugar free Halls drops and went for it, even though they have both soy and artific<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ial sweetener. It was wonderful...until it was done dis<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">solving and we were back to square one. I tried to nap - <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">right after I finally fell asleep the same wrong number that called me yesterday on my cell phone called AGAIN. So I got up and <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">la<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">id on the couch and watched <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">a show on T<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">iny Houses.
So I had some of those - they were yumm<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">y. And with my new phone, the built in alarm clock apparently doesn't automatically snooze, because it hasn't gone off SINCE. WTH?!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I should have known that was going to lead into a crappy day...and it's only 8am.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I overcooked my eggs and sandwich steak. The steak was still good, reminded me of how I like my Steak n Shake burgers "well done" so they're crispy around the edges. The eggs though...I pretty much only ate the over hard yolks.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I think my trusty iMac is also on the way out. I think the hard drive is making noise. If I whack the front of the monitor near the apple logo the noise stops, but only for a few minutes. Needless to say I made sure Time Machine was backing up every hour.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I admit that I'm due for a new computer. This one has to be 5 years old...if not a little older. It's from before they got really thin. I wouldn't mind that upgrade - though I have said a million times that I'll never buy another Mac. This was my first and last.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">On that note - it's now 8:09am and I should have left the house by 8. I'm not dressed for work, no make-up and my lunch isn't packed. Actually it's not even made to be packed.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I'm tempted to call in.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">OH! The good news is that my knee seems to be fine! It hasn't hurt at all since I got up AND I haven't taken any pain pills (aka Aleve) or anything. I am going to toss my turmeric in my bag though and go back to taking those daily. Just in case. I also h<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">opped on the scale again this morning. If it<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> shows another pound + gone. I decided not to go to the doctor's office to get weighed. Motivation to stay on track through February. Go me!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Breakfast - overhard egg yolks and overcooked sandwich steak. Yum...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Lunch - can of pineapple chu<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">nks*<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, a Larabar and chicken salad.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Dinner - blacke<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">nd Mahi Mahi with avocado and <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">(clarified) buttered mushrooms <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">plus a side of <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">asparagus. Delicious!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">My day only go<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">t slightly better after leaving. I did actually get to work by 9 so I worked my old schedule since I was 30 minutes late. Good thing my boss does<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">n't care! However, upon leaving I realized we were still under a Dense Fog Advisory. It was crazy! I think a lot of folk<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">s stayed home because of it, as there wasn't much traffic.
Today and tomorrow will both be back on the regular Whole30 diet to see if we have any unpleasant reactions to having legumes. I'm not expecting any...

Breakfast - 3 eggs over medium, 2 sandwich steaks.

Larabar for a snack.

Lunch - Outback! Medium sirloin, mixed veggies and a sweet potato - all plain. I forgot my clarified butter and pumpkin pie spice in my lunch back, so I did get cinnamon for the potato. I also ate my chicken salad in the afternoon.

Dinner - Balsamic Pork Chops with Rosemary. Compliments of my favorite Northern grocery store - Wegmans! Plus a side of the usual mixed vegetable blend - carrots, water chestnuts, sugar snap peas, broccoli...

The pork was delicious. I clearly ate way more than I should have today, but I was actually hungry when I ate. It wasn't out of boredom. I had plenty of work to keep me busy at the office today.

My lunch buddy "made" me go for a walk with her. Against my better judgement I went for one lap. In a maxi dress and flats. Just as we were coming around the corner to my "exit" at the end of that lap my right knee popped. It was a rather sharp pain. I tried to walk it off and limped back to my desk where I didn't move the rest of the day. I did bend and straight it a few times and it hurt each and every one of them. When I got up to leave I got the same sharp pain and limped on out the door. Halfway to the Jeep it seemed ok. It hurt like a <bad word=""> when I got into the Jeep. It hurt (though not as sharply) just pivoting my foot between the gas and the brake. Not cool. I limped my way to the front door. Hopefully it'll be fine tomorrow. I'll be busting on the arnica gel and taking my turmeric pills again for a while. Those are two things my herbalist put me one for a previous knee injury (I stepped on the mat outside the shower and it slid while my other foot was still firmly planted in the shower - you never think it's going to happen to you! This was one of those memory foam mats that had a rubber backing on it, but it just wouldn't grip on my tile floor so it went in the wash and off to Goodwill!) I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but it's the other knee this time. I guess we'll see what happens.</bad>

Against my better judgement, I stepped on the scale this morning. The house scale hasn't been working, but it worked and seemed to be relatively accurate. It showed 10 pounds less than what I was at the doctor's office. I'm sure their scale is WAAAAAY more accurate, so I'm going to try to pop in tomorrow and see if I can hop on their scale to get an accurate reading. The last time I used our scale it was off by 50+ pounds. So I'm taking that 10 pound loss with a grain of salt for now.

I'm not 100% sure I want to get on their scale though. My appointment is in March. I'm leaning toward NOT being weighed until then - more as a motivation factor for not wanting to disappoint the doctor, plus that's another month for me to really enforce the habits (or routine...) that I've gotten used to over the past 30+ days.

I have to get all my blood work done again at the end of February - 2 weeks before my appointment - so it will be interesting to see what, if any, changes there are there.

I saw a picture of myself back before Christmas. I can only say that I'm more than a little mortified. Oh and I can TOTALLY see a difference in my face. That picture will not see the light of day until I'm at a point where I am comfortable taking an "after" shot.~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-27352274852390992212016-02-01T18:41:00.000-05:002016-02-01T18:41:06.266-05:00Reintroduction Day 1<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Well...we haven't really done anything different. LOL

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">We went to breakfast at the mom and pop home cookin' place again. No steaks on the breakfast menu today. So we improvised. We both had a 4oz burger patty, 2 eggs over medium, home fries (plain/done on the grill) and water. It was crazy busy for some reason this morning.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">After that we went to BJ's and topped off my Jeep (still $1.65!) and Mr. P. ran down to Home Depot again while I went in and grabbed a few things. This week it really was only a few things LOL. They had a coupon for $4.50 of the Tyson 10lb bag of boneless, skinless chicken boobs. Yep - not on my list, but they went in my cart! And the coupons are good thru mid-February, so I will be stocking up with 10lbs of chicken every week. They also had a coupon for $2 off 3lb of Land O' Lakes butter - which made it cheaper than the house brand. Grabbed another 4 pack of sparkling apple juice, a box of sandwich steaks and a bag of sirloin burgers. I almost bought those last week, but this week they had a clipless coupon for $4 off (last week it was only $2 off). I also grabbed a 2 pack of Northland Cran-Pom juice (100%) since it had a clipless coupon and a bag of organic Fuji apples.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">After that we went to Aldi. Picked up 3 dozen eggs, a package of summer squash (holy crow the produce problems are starting to hit the prices here - last week they were under $2, this week they were almost $4). 3 avocados ($.39!), bananas, frozen cooked plantains, some button mushrooms, asparagus, baking potatoes and an 8 pack of Apple Cranberry LaCroix.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Relatively cheap week of shopping.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I warmed up the leftover scallops and shrimp for a late afternoon snack and topped it with a big dollop of my spicy cashew sauce. Then I did more dishes...and threw chicken in the crock pot to make my chicken salad this week.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Oh I also picked up a 5 pack of sandwich size BPA free containers at Aldi so I can put lunch stuff together for Mr. P. since he doesn't do it. He's working late this week and his lazy "grab 2 apples and a banana" lunch is not going to cut it. I already portioned out 2 cans of black olives into 5 small containers so he can grab and go in the morning. I'm going to put 2 hot dogs (Applegate Farms) and sauerkraut in the sandwich containers and he can just take the mustard bottle with him. I'm not a fan of regular yellow mustard.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Dinner was 1 1/2 sirloin burger patties, DIFFERENT mixed veggie blend (zucchini, lima beans, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) and avocado slices. The burgers were good - haven't had them before, but they cook in 12 minutes from frozen so they will be a great quick meal to have on hand.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">L<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ast night I had a dream that I took a bite out of a burger - complete with the bun, cheese and bacon <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">before I could stop myself and THEN a potato chip! Then I broke down sobbing because I was going to have to start the Whole30 over from Day 1. I was a bit frantic when I woke up. I've been known to self sab<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">otage. NOT THIS TIME. NOT<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">. This. Time.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Beautiful day in Central Florida. Got up before 8am, lots to do around the house. My mom came over to help out! She got here while Mr. P. was making breakfast. Nothing fancy - over medium eggs and sandwich steaks. Why mess with a good thing?

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So it was a bit chilly this morning so I had put on leggings and a tunic length sweatshirt type top and my mom said "that top is huge". So I told her that I had bought the gray one a size larger because my regular size was too tight in this particular top - which I had ordered earlier in a really pretty magenta - purple color. So I pulled that one out and put it on and it fits. Not only does it fit, but it's loose enough that it doesn't cling anywhere. Like it's JUST RIGHT - like it's how it's supposed to look! She said "that's much better" - I guess I can toss the gray one in the dryer and see if it shrinks at all now!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I also keep pulling up my leggings. You know - leggings. The pants that fit like a second skin and shouldn't be worn as, well...pants. In fact I walked out to the back 40 to get the lawnmower and my arse was nearly hanging out by the time I got there (had my hands full so I couldn't pull them up while walking). For real people - I am now really, really curious as to how much weight I have lost.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mom wanted something to eat, so I nuked her a tray of TGI Friday's spinach and artichoke dip that was in the freezer (since we won't be eating it) and the rest of an open package of party pumpernickel. Then I whipped up chicken salad for myself and had a bottle of sparkling apple juice.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I'm kinda beside myself here...Whole30 does magical things people. MAGICAL.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">One of my friends just started yesterday. The food pictures she posted on FaceBook yesterday looked amazing. If I can do it, she can do it! You got this Heather!

Dinner was L.A.T.E. Like 9pm late. Mr. P. didn't bother to take a lunch break while doing stuff around the house, so while he was making dinner he ate 4 Applegate Farms hot dogs with mustard and sauerkraut. Seriously? He seared some shrimp and scallops in clarified butter, garlic, black Hawaiian volcano salt and some pepper and then tossed a bag of mixed veggies in the microwave. It was good. I added spicy cashew sauce because I have half a jar left (and it's good...LOL). I didn't even heat it up. I just took little bits of it with my fork before adding on a shrimp or whatever. Yum yum!

I celebrated by having a large glass of white grape juice - 100% juice of course. I don't love white grape juice. It's not the same as regular grape juice...but I'm kinda cheap and it was CRAZY cheap at BJ's last weekend with a clipless coupon. I prefer the Wellsley Farms house brand 100% apple juice or 100% cranberry from OceanSpray. I did not care for the inexpensive 100% juice "cranberry" that I picked up at the Walmart Neighborhood Grocery. While it was 100% juice, it was not 100% CRANBERRY juice and neither of us liked it enough to buy it again, even if it's $3 less. You get what you pay for.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Today was a gorgeous day! Sunny, clear skies, crisp morning and cool through the afternoon. Fall in Florida...in January. Seriously - the trees have only started turning in the last few weeks. I took this photo on my way to work on January 22 because they had just changed.

Breakfast was the usual - finished up the box of sandwich steaks and topped them with 3 over medium eggs.

Lunch - surprise! Chicken salad - went with the dried cranberries and a whole (small) fuji apple today. I also had a cup of organic unsweetened applesauce.

Dinner was mushroom burgers with mixed potato hash (sweet and yukons).
Can't believe we are there!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">It's been a dreary, cloudy, rainy, yucky two days here in Central Florida. It literally rained ALL DAY today. Varying degrees of course, but it never actually stopped. Yuck! Hey Mother Nature - it's not rainy season!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Breakfast was the new usual! A couple of sandwich steaks and three eggs that ended up over hard today. Oops. I also had a fruit cup.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Lunch was chicken salad - today it had apples, dried cranberries and slivered almonds.
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">A cup of unsweetened organic applesauce.

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I may have had a Larabar. Ok two. I was hungry!

<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Dinner was <span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">blackened Mahi Mahi topped with avocado, steamed carrots and green beans with crispy fried prosciutto.
Last night I got home later than usual 7:15pm or so and Mr. P. hadn't started dinner. In fact he hadn't really thought about what to make for dinner. He had gone from work (at 3:00pm) to a friend's house to fix a pool pump. I don't know what time he got home, but he said it was later than he anticipated. I suspect he had been home well over an hour, if not two. Of course he was camped out on the couch watching TV. So he asked me what I wanted for dinner. Ummm seriously? I just said "These are the kind of nights you just want to go out and get something, but you can't" and walked off. Needless to say, dinner happened around 8:30pm.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Now it's "tomorrow" and it's been raining since before I got up at 6:00am and here's what Accuweather has to say about it...

The high is supposed to be 73 today. It's currently 66 and I'm not so sure it's going to change that much. These are the days I wish I had rain boots - my shoes / feet will be soaked from walking across the yard to get to the Jeep when I leave for work. Yay.

Breakfast - 3 sandwich steaks and 3 over medium eggs and a fruit cup!

Lunch - chicken salad, fruit cup, apple sauce, and dates in the afternoon.

Dinner - thrown stuff in a skillet and call it a stir fry. Shrimp, cabbage, coconut aminos, olive oil, mushrooms, garlic, green beans...and I added spicy cashew sauce to mine.

Notes:

The annoying cough I've had since July is gone. Everyone had it - I'm pretty sure there was mold in the classroom where our offices were temporarily moved during a remodel of the office.

I've been able to wear eye makeup (aside from my usual waterproof gel liner) the past two weeks or so. I gave it up well over a year ago because my eyes were watering so bad that I was taking allergy pills on a daily basis. Haven't taken the pills since before Day 1 and have only had 1 day that my eyes were watery (just last week).

The arthritis in my thumb joints hasn't flared up from eating seafood. Years ago my coworker (who is a nurse) told me that eating too much seafood would aggravate arthritis. Sure enough - if I had seafood regularly my thumbs would be killing me a few days later and it would last 2 or 3 days. No pain in January!

No heartburn. Haven't had it since prior to starting Whole30.

SO close to 30! The longest I have ever done any type of "diet" (change in...) was a year. I did Weight Watchers for a little over a year, but let's face it. I did NOT stick to the plan 100%. To my knowledge I have been 100% compliant thus far. I can only assume that Outback didn't fail me - everything appeared to be plain as I had ordered it on every visit and Sharon's was very accommodating.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">This morning we both had Steak N Eggs - well sandwich steak. Close enough. Better than just eggs. I actually <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ate at home for once. I made myself 3 steak slices and 3 over medium eggs. Tomorrow I'll try to remember to take a picture. I'm getting bad about that.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">It's a nice change to have meat with the eggs since I can't find compliant bacon locally.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mr. P. packed his lunch. Not sure what he took, I noticed 2 of the 4 applesauce cups were gone. I assume he took a couple of apples. I got him some compliant sauerkraut - so he probably took a couple of Applegate Farms hot dogs. At least he won't be grouchy when he gets home.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">First
thing this morning I dropped my stuff at my desk and went to the break
room to fill my beloved Pink Florida Gators Tervis Tumbler for the first
time today and dang it if there wasn't half a chocolate cake in there. I
managed to ignore it - every.single.time. I went to refill my cup.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> had leftover sweet potato hash, turkey, cantaloupe, apple sauce, and some <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">dried cranberries that <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">packed for lun<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ch. I also went to O<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">utback with coworkers where I had<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> a plain seared si<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">rloin and a dou<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">ble portion of<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> plain mixed veggies.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Yes. I was starving.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Dinner was delicious! Mr. P. made gluten free pan frie<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">d coconut flounder, roasted squash and zucchini and fresh steamed <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">broccoli.
Notes:

Starving and tired. Last night was the first night I haven't slept well. I felt like I never really went to sleep last night, just laid in bed in the dark for 8 hours. I'm pretty sure I was asleep at some point, but not in my head! I was dyin' between 1:00 and 2:00 this afternoon. It didn't help that I was in a meeting that entire hour. I made a short to-do list for tonight. None of it is going to happen. I'm taking a shower and going to bed. I don't care that it's only 9pm.
We did actually sit down and read the paper (at home) and we did go OUT for breakfast before running our errands.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I suggested Sharon's. A great little home cookin' place that has been around for years. They know us there, I figured they'd do what they could to make it work.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Lucky for us, one of the breakfast specials was flat iron steak n eggs. SOLD. Grilled flat iron, over medium eggs and they made the home fries on the griddle for us. It was nice to not have to do breakfast dishes. Of course breakfast just cost $27, but hey...we aren't exactly eating out much these days.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Onward to the shopping. We hit up BJ's first where gas was $1.65! YAY - although this morning I heard it would start going back up soon. Mr. P. needed to pick up something at Home Depot so he just dropped me at BJ's and ran down to the other end of the shopping plaza to do his thing. I went in for shrimp, vinegar and sparkling water and $170 later had a full cart.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Grapes, organic Fuji apples, cole slaw mix, salad shrimp, mahi mahi fillets, dates, vinegar, unsweetened organic apple sauce cups, 100% beef sandwich steaks (think steak'ums only better), Applegate Farms hot dogs, oh my gosh I found so many good things this week! I also found that they now have extra light tasting olive oil woo hoo - which I need for making mayo. I got a larger container last week at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market so I didn't pick any up this week, but YAY that it's in stock now! I also picked up organic apple juice, cranberry juice (lesson learned if you want cranberry juice, stick to OceanSpray - I bought the 'house brand' last week and while it was 100% juice it was so much of a mix that it didn't really taste like cranberry at all). Pork chops went in the basket too. Oh and Spanish olives. I don't like olives, but Mr. P. will eat a whole jar as a snack.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Aldi was next on the list. Peppers, eggs (3 dozen...we buy 3 dozen eggs a week now), sweet potatoes, Yukon Gold potatoes, avocados, coconut water (100% - no added sugar!), cauliflower, squash...blah blah - all produce stuff. I did find compliant fruit leather! I didn't buy any, but their organic brand was all fruit! Exciting!

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Lunch was a Larabar.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Dinner - I wasn't in the mood to cook, but...so I tossed a bunch of crap in a skillet and called it a stir fry. Salad shrimp, green beans, cole slaw mix, mushrooms, garlic, coconut aminos, clarified butter...and then I made a spicy cashew sauce and mixed that in with mine (SO GOOD), Mr. P. doesn't like cashews. He wouldn't even try it. I didn't think it tasted like cashews at all, more like a peanut sauce. His loss! I have a whole jar now. It'll be good on chicken - or that leftover turkey with some zoodles for lunch later this week.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">All in all another successful day in the books. ~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-46395382343149396122016-01-25T07:42:00.003-05:002016-01-30T16:56:43.958-05:00Day 23...<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Here we are...Day 23. I was hoping this was the 7 day count down. I will say that I am looking forward to Day 31 because I am going to make CHILI. I certainly hope it will still be cold. I'm a little sad that I've missed out on my favorite "winter weather" meals. Being in FL we really only have a handful of cold days so I never get to make ALL my favorite cold weather meals, but here we are, probably the coldest it will get in Central Florida and I can't make hot cocoa. I can't make piping hot apple cinnamon oatmeal. No chili and corn bread, no potato soup with homemade croutons and crispy bacon. Creamy chicken and wild rice soup is also out. Just a few things I'm missing this morning as I contemplate going to get my socks. My feet are freezing. My feet also look skinny. I can actually see some bones...and if I sit up straight and suck my stomach in - my boobs actually stick out farther than my gut again.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I have to say, I'm a bit curious as to how much (if any) weight I have lost. I won't know until I go back to the doctor.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Mr. P. fried up the last three eggs for himself this morning. So now I need to figure out what I'm going to have for breakfast. There are a couple of small Yukon Golds left and a couple of uncooked sweet potatoes and an apple or two (clearly I need to go shopping today). I might dice them all up and make my self some mixed potato apple hash.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Last night I gave Mr. P. some new salts. I popped into Marshall's to pick up a birthday gift and I always have to check out the gourmet food section because they always have cool stuff. They had some compliant dried apples but I thought they were a bit too pricey. Then I found the baggies of salt. They were $2.99 each (also pricey....it's SALT). Mr. P loves to grill and make rubs for meat that he puts on the smoker, so I'm always up for fancy salt to add to the mix. I picked up black Hawaiian Lava Salt, Hickory Smoked Sea Salt and Apple Smoked Sea Salt. The smoked ones are quite smokey smelling!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I ended up making hash, but no apple. It was delicious!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I scrubbed the potatoes, peeled and diced the sweet potato, diced and rinsed the Yukon Golds, tossed in a skillet with clarified butter and stirred it around a bit over medium heat. Once the butter was sizzling I sprinkled on some paprika, white pepper and black Hawaiian Lava Sea Salt added a splash of water and put a lid on it. I set the timer for 5 minutes and came back to stir. Twice. Checked a piece of each type and called it done. I think Mr. P. would even like it and he's really not big on sweet potatoes.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I had a coconut cream pie Larabar for a snack late afternoon and there's a turkey breast in the oven for dinner. Not sure what I'm going to make to go with it. I might dice some more sweet potatoes and toss in a handful of dried cranberries that Amazon delivered yesterday. Can't seem to find any without added sugar around here.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Dinner was delicious - although there was an issue with the turkey. So let's just clear the air. I don't cook. I'm not good at it. So I made a RAW turkey breast for the first time. OMG raw meat is so gross. Anyway - I followed the directions - which were to remove the outer bag, but leave the mesh on, brush turkey with oil. Easy enough. I brushed the turkey with coconut oil, put it on a cooling rack in a jelly roll pan and put it in the oven. 350 for about 2 hours (per the bag). At 2 hours, the included timer still hadn't popped up. at 2 hours and 15 minutes Mr. P stuck a thermometer in it and it was done (per internal temp reading) - timer still hadn't popped (and for the record it never did). So about that oil...apparently, I didn't oil it enough because there was no slicing this turkey. It just came apart in chunks because it was all stuck to the mesh. It still tasted good. We had the sweet potato hash with cranberries and mixed veggies to round it out. Not pretty, but pretty good.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> ~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-343313053187299462016-01-23T17:44:00.000-05:002016-01-30T16:56:15.984-05:00Day 22!<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Seriously...I feel like the countdown has been started from day 1.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Today was my half day at work so I just threw something in my bag for breakfast. That turned out to be a cooked sweet potato and a container of cashews.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Then I worked late - somehow I was short 5 hours this week! I made up 2. Too much to do at the house to stick around and make up the rest.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I ordered Outback curbside to pick up on my way home. The usual - plain steak, plain sweet potato, plain mixed veggies. On the form you pick your entree and how you want it cooked (seared or fire grilled) and then your two sides and they both have a box for any special requests - and the potatoes pop up with check boxes for toppings. I chose "Dry" for my sweet potato. Then at the bottom there's a box for any special requests for the main dish. I put "plain" and they called me twice to verify that "plain" meant - wait for it.... no seasoning. Are there multiple definitions of "plain"? Whatever - it was ready when I got there AND I had a 10% off lunch coupon. Saved me $2...

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I rushed home and gobbled it up while watching PLL on the DVR before Mr. P. got home.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Then I emptied the dishwasher (yet again...) and did the dishes (yet again) and reloaded the dishwasher (one more time...) and there are two skillets currently soaking in the kitchen sink.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Then there's this adorable little knock at the door. I froze. Who the heck is knocking on my door. I never answer the door when I'm not expecting someone. I peeked out the window in the office - close call. It was the little girl from two doors down...and her wagon of GIRL SCOUT COOKIES. I know it was only a temporary reprieve...she'll be back. Maybe I'll buy a box for Georgia or stash a box of Thin Mints in the freezer for what seems like 6 months from now.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Now that it's nearly 6pm I need to get the laundry started, finish the damn dishes and figure out what to make this weekend.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">I'm thinking stuffed zucchini boats will be in there somewhere...and a frittata.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> Dinner - burger in a bowl from 5 Guys. Extra grilled mushrooms for me, lettuce, mustard, onion and mushrooms for the Mr. Pretty sure that's not going to be enough food for him. $17 - for what amounts to a small salad and 4 hamburger patties. At least I don't have to do any more dishes today.
Yes...yes I should. Except that the Whole30 is a bit of a lie. It will take most of another two weeks to get through the reintroduction phase. So yeah, technically it's 10 days and on January 31 I get to have PEANUT BUTTER and BEANS. And then February 1 and 2 it's back to Whole30. Then February 3 I get to add back Gluten Free Grains or something, and then February 4 and 5 it's back to Whole30, etc. So we're hanging in there, but we still have a way to go.

Today I will not eat all of my food in one sitting.

I had chicken salad for breakfast.

I had chicken salad for lunch.

I had a handful of slivered almonds and a Larabar for a snack.

Today I realized that we are at the ACTUAL halfway point. I mean traditional math would say that half of 30 is 15 and I did have a mini celebration of "halfway there" with a little Bon Jovi moment, but after looking at my calendar and penciling in the reintroduction schedule on my work calendar I realized that we still have 21 days to go. That's Whole30 math right there...the magic of 30 days crammed into 42 days :-p I feel cheated. Lied too. Like I would kill someone for a toasted cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup right about yesterday.

Dinner was scallops with mixed veggies and sugar snap peas. ~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7809755514127736104.post-73598422711470560442016-01-21T19:20:00.000-05:002016-01-30T16:56:58.512-05:00Day 20<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Today was a bit…odd. I woke up starving – not surprised after the epic dinner fail last night. The hubs took the day off to work on the roof next door. I packed most of my lunch (I forgot my sweet potato on the kitchen counter – already cooked) as well as breakfast. Got to work on time for a change and promptly ate all of it. ALL.OF.IT.

I guess on the plus side, I worked through lunch because I wasn’t hungry. Around 4:30 I did eat a Larabar.

I watched The Martian. What a great movie! I wanted to see it in the theatre, but never got around to it.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">So to recap:

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Breakfast: ground beef and potatoes topped with three fried eggs, a coconut cream pie Larabar, a fruit cup, and a bowl of chicken salad with apples, grapes and almonds.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Late Afternoon Snack: coconut cream pie Larabar (yeah - these are only supposed to be "emergency" use for Whole30)

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Dinner: blackened Mahi Mahi topped with sliced avocado with sauteed green beans and sugar snap peas on the side.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Water...lots of water.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Are we done
yet? I'm not really struggling to keep myself from cheating or anything,
but DAMN I just want to go out to dinner and not have to do the dishes.
I'm talking two full dishwasher loads per day, plus the anodized
aluminum pots and pans that can't go in the dishwasher. Make it stop!~Robin~http://www.blogger.com/profile/17698193304620491749noreply@blogger.com0
