10 in 10 day 2

Living room - CHECK!

I would post before and after photos, but you wouldn't see a difference. It still looks a mess, but the stuff that is out is stuff that is going to the cabin with us so by Thursday night it will be packed up and actually in the truck rather than the living room. The stuff that needed to be put away and cleaned has been put away and/or cleaned. One down, nine to go.

Happy to report my little netbook arrived this afternoon, I got WIN7 set up, checked out the wireless and played around with it a little at the office. It barely fits in the netbook bag I posted yesterday. It's only a 10.1" screen! Yikes. So the computer fits in there with very little room to spare and it's tight to zip on the end with the battery - there's no room for the power cord I can shove it (with a lot of effort) into one of the outside pockets, but the zippered one won't zip with it in there. Whatever - it's fine. Did I mention it's blue? :-)

Mr. Paisley had a friend over to help him take more stuff to the storage unit. Porch is still loaded. Dandy. I hope to see it all gone tomorrow.

That said, Mr. P is fixin' to leave right now to go back to work for an hour. He's got a delivery to take. What that really means is that he's going somewhere to sit and wait for the truck driver to unload the chemical delivery and then follow him out the gate and come home. I guess it takes about an hour to empty a tanker truck. He's taking a book and I am on my own for dinner again. I'm not really hungry at the moment...and i'm out of french bread pizza.

Day 2 -

Task #2 - design my business cards. I picked up a package of business cards when I was at Walmart last week... time to do them I guess.

I'm joining the club...

Gina over at The Shabby Chic Cottage is doing a Ten Tasks in Ten Days Challenge and well, Lord knows I have plenty o' tasks to do so I think I can come up with 10 to do in the next 10 days.

Today's task is getting the living room cleaned up again! Nothing like starting a project at 9:12pm (might as well make that 9:30 since you know i'm going to sit here and type this blog post) to make you hustle.

You see we are going on vacation and we have family coming in from out of town at the same time. Interesting how that works eh? We leave, they show up - can we say house sit and feed the iguanas while you're at it? Oh and don't eat my Nutella. LOL

The living room...you've seen photos of it on a "show off your cottage Monday" post in the past...well, it's gotten a little out of hand. Stuff has been collecting there for this trip, along with some other random stuff...just because it's where we come and go from the house...you know how those hot spots are...magnet for clutter of any and all kinds!

Mr. Paisley had to work late tonight, just as I was a few blocks from home tonight, he called to say he just got called out...funny, since he hadn't LEFT work yet. So it's been a long day for Mr. P and once again, the lizards and I sat down to a Diet Dr. Pepper and a Stouffer's french bread pizza (just cheese tonight...and the lizards didn't get any, they had bananas and green beans, but they were all present and accounted for!)

I got two fabulous emails today. One was the shipping notice for an outdoor rug that I ordered for the cabin...2 months ago. It's been on backorder since the day I ordered it. It's supposed to be here on the 30th. Woo hoo! Just in time to get tossed into the truck with the rest of the stuff. The other one was the shipping notice for my new netbook - compliments of Mr. Paisley for my birthday. The time had come to replace the HP laptop that has served me well for so many years. #1 it weighs a ton. Seriously. #2 the battery needs to be replaced. Do you know how much laptop batteries cost? Roughly half the price of a good deal on a Netbook. DING!
After a lot of careful research...I picked a blue one. LOL Actually, I had originally picked a bright purple one, but then found out I could get the same one elsewhere in Blue, White or Red as well. I thought about red, but like the purple it would have clashed with my Vera Bradley netbook tote in Imperial Toile
I mean really...brown/black, white and pinky-coral? Red just wouldn't do - nor purple. Not that blue does, but it's a pretty dark blue...and I like blue...not that I have anything against shiny red or pretty violet.

Ok, the color wasn't really how I chose my netbook...but I really didn't want black. LOL I ended up going with one that has a 1.66ghz processor, WIN7, 1gb of RAM (will be upgrading that to 2gb like yesterday) and a 250gb hard drive. Oh and the all important 6 cell battery (that's the one that lasts 7+ hours...vs the 3 cell that only lasts 3 (if you're lucky).

Now I can continue to amuse you while i'm not here in front of my iMac. Lucky you!

Ok, now it's 9:35 and Mr. P just called to say he's on his way home. That's my cue to get out of my way cool new office chair and see if I can't cross the living room off my list before he gets here.

Come on and join in - cross 10 things of YOUR list!

Phinz Up Parrotheads!

This is "old" news, but it ties in with my topic 'o choice today.

Part 1~
From Margaritaville.com: Jimmy Buffett announced a free concert on July 1, 2010 in Gulf Shores, AL to promote awareness and tourism in the Gulf area. Special guests will include Sonny Landreth, Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Jesse Winchester and Allen Toussaint. A special souvenir tee shirt will also be designed for the concert and sold onlne and at the show. More info coming soon! (Jimmy made the announcement during Saturday’s show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield MA)

Update: “CMT to Air Jimmy Buffett’s Free Concert With Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown”

To demonstrate support for the people, businesses and culture of the Gulf Coast, CMT will telecast a free musical celebration live from the beach at Gulf Shores, Ala. CMT Presents Jimmy Buffett & Friends Live from the Gulf Coast will air on CMT on Thursday, July 1, from 8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band will be joined in the concert by his friends Zac Brown, Kenny Chesney and Sonny Landreth. Other performers will be announced as additional plans develop. Stay linked to CMT.com for further details and for ticketing information. For information on how to help the Gulf Coast, visit cmtonecountry.com or margaritaville.com.

Part 2~
Tickets will be available starting on Wednesday June 23rd for Jimmy Buffett’s free concert from the beach in Gulf Shores, Ala. Tickets will be available via www.CMT.com, Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets starting at 10 a.m. CDT on Wednesday.
The concert will feature performances by Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Allen Toussaint, Sonny Landreth, Jesse Winchester and additional special guests.
A statement from concert organizers listed a four-ticket limit, and tickets are required for entry. Concert organizers plan to distribute as many as 35,000 tickets to the event.
However, Ticketmaster.com listings for the concert indicate a six-ticket limit. Ticketmaster.com also indicates that gates will open at 3 p.m. for a 5 p.m. show, so those in attendance apparently will get more show than those watching from home.
For those unable to make it to the show, performances will be simulcast live on Radio Margaritaville, available on Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, and streamed live on www.CMT.com. CMT also plans to rebroadcast the concert several times throughout the Independence Day holiday weekend.
In a statement released by concert organizers, Buffett said, “there are always welcome breaks in every storm but the unfortunate reality is that this disaster is not going away for a while — but a few hours of fun, void of the constant reminders of the situation, is a good thing and that is basically what I do.”
“CMT Presents Jimmy Buffett & Friends: Live From the Gulf Coast” is scheduled to broadcast live nationwide on CMT from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 1 on the public beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Encore rebroadcast on July 2 at 6 p.m., July 3 at 8:30 a.m., July 4 at 1 p.m. and July 5 at 10:30 a.m. Excerpts and artist interviews will be available at CMT.com

Part 3~
Just days after the news broke of the disaster BP created in the Gulf Coast area, Jimmy Buffett teamed up with Vero Beach boat builders Dragonfly Boatworks to design and build special “S.W.A.T” boats to help rescue the wildlife in the area. (Read full article here)
Today Mark Castlow, owner of Dragonfly Boatworks in Vero Beach, announced that BP has put a stop to their efforts.
Dragonfly Boatworks was scheduled to launch their 2nd of four S.W.A.T.( Shallow Water Attention Terminal) boats for use by the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Unfortunately, BP’s Incident Command Center has halted Dragonfly’s efforts to save the wildlife BP has single-handedly destroyed.
If you missed the Dragonfly Boatworks episode of Anderson Cooper 360 Tuesday night, it will be rebroadcast Wednesday, June 23 at 10 p.m on CNN.
Part 4~
All 35,000 free tickets for Jimmy Buffet’s Gulf Coast Relief Concert were gone in less than ten minutes.
Thousands of disappointed fans flooded Ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster outlets only to find out the tickets were already gone.
Within minutes, the free tickets started showing up on eBay and Craig’s List for hundreds of dollars.
Free tickets to Jimmy Buffett’s Gulf Coast Relief Concert will be removed from eBay, according to a statement released by the company.
“While eBay in many cases allows the listing of event tickets that are initially distributed for free, we did not feel that the resale of free tickets to the Gulf Coast benefit concert was appropriate or consistent with the charitable spirit of the event,” the company said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the company said eBay is in the process of removing existing ticket listings from the website, and they have put “measures in place to try to capture new listings from going live.”

Part 5~
A Limited Edition tee shirt is available for purchase at Lulus at Homeport Marina website (owned and operated by Jimmy Buffett’s sister Lucy).
One Love One Ocean Tee Shirt - Help Save Our Gulf Coast! Proceeds from the sale of this shirt will help fund scholarship programs at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and the University of Southern Mississippi.

Part 6~
I'm a Parrothead. If you look at my iPod there are more Jimmy Buffett songs on it than anything else (and I currently have just under 3500 songs on my iPod). I'm also a native Floridian and thus far have held my tongue when it comes to this oil spill...if you can still call it a "spill" - the Exxon mess was a spill. There was a limit as to how much oil there was going to be...the spill in the gulf has continued to spill for weeks and it's a complete disaster. It's destroying our (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and probably Texas and Mexico as well at some point). It will take years and years for the gulf, the coast line and the creatures of the sea to recover. The last straw for me was having this whole mess blamed on me...and you - the consumers. Evidently, WE (not the government) should have been dictating the rules and regulations for drilling off the coast. Evidently WE (not the government) should have administered the regulations and then policed the rigs to make sure the oil companies that are pocketing record profits were not cutting corners in order to save a few bucks because "eh - nothing will happen and if it does, we'll figure it out" How is it that you don't have a back up plan? How is it that your business models aren't even current with contact information? I was always FOR drilling off Florida's coast, but I was also of the mindset "we need to do it before someone else does it - that way we can regulate it and know it's being done responsibly" - Hmmmm....

I'll leave it at that. I don't particularly want politics on my blog.

Back to Jimmy Buffett. I *heart* Jimmy! That's no secret. I once had a job interview with Caribbean Soul and SOMEHOW I didn't get the job. Major bummer - my interview was on Halloween. The guy that interviewed me was in a full tux with devil horns (the movie kind that you rubber cement to your head), and tail. He was also barefoot. During the open door interview I also witnessed a SuperSoaker water gun fight in the hall. Seriously...I still want to know WHY I DIDN'T GET a RECEPTIONIST job there?! Actually...it was because I was a wee bit (ok a lot) over qualified...but DUDE! Who cares?! I was all about it. Oh well...fast forward what seems like a million years and my mom ends up working with a guy who has "friends in high places". He also happens to have an in with someone at CS. He randomly sends me CS goodies...one of a kind pieces - be still my Parrothead heart. I finally got around to framing a few...so here are my treasures...these two are the original artwork prints on ummm whatzitcalled - something like fusible webbing or stabilizer type fabric that you use when you do embroidered logos or applique type stuff on t-shirts.

An assortment of randomness

Yesterday I stopped in at Ross and the Goodwill - now I normally do this every Friday, but I had decided not to while I was at work yesterday...but then my boss told us we could leave a half hour early. WOO HOO - 30 minutes changes everything LOL.

Not the best day as far as deals go, but I picked up a couple of things.

At Goodwill I found this vintage take along laundry set. It was $.99 and frankly, too cute not to pick up.
The little plastic clothes pins say Denmark on them...the price tag says Made in the USA.

I'm pretty sure it's never been out of the package.  How cute is it?!

At Ross I picked up a Rope Knot Doorstop. I saw it in a recent Ballard Design catalog and wanted it, but it was $39 See it Here

I found this one in the home decor section...for $5.99. Close enough!
Then I found a Targus 50" tripod for $9. I have a smaller one, but for $9 I wasn't going to pass up the taller one! Especially since it has a BONUS carrying bag .

Mr. Midori seems to have settled right in at the Paisley Cottage. His injuries are healing up and his personality is coming out. He's very well trained - already potty trained! Awesome beyond words - trust me on that one, because I had to potty train Smirnoff, Captain Morgan and Jose Cuervo. It wasn't really hard, it's just time consuming.
In his new digs...

Loves the faux wall rocks...specifically the one higher up.
Not so much loving the camera....as you can see, his nose is still black but you can see the really pink line where his "lip" already sloughed off on the one side (same way on the other side). The lower lip area is starting to peel at the edges, so I'd say by the end of July he'll be good as new.
The curly Q  is actually more peeling off lip. I took this photos this morning and since then, he's already rubbed it off.
Smirnoff's lazy butt is still sleeping...
Jose Cuervo wanted breakfast and some outside time.

Update on my ongoing saga with CitiFinancial.
Here's my current tracking sheet:

Fort Mill SC collection agency calls since receiving return receipt for removal of my #

6/21 1:28pm 803-835-5100

6/25 - returned call to 1-800-257-0286 at 6:15pm
call answered by Justin. As soon as I said “I want to know why you are calling me when you have received a written request to remove my number from the file of Robin Davis” he transferred me to a recorded message that dropped the call.
Called back, call picked up by Lynn at 6:19pm. Lynn could tell I was not a happy camper. Lynn looked up the record manually because I didn’t have the account information (right...because it’s NOT MINE). She says she removed my number and added a note to not call it again. She also said it would take 24 hours for it to replicate thru the system.

We'll see if the calls stop. I'm tempted to look up the local Citifinancial that called and drive my happy butt right on over to their office with copies of my certified letter and receipt from February.

Today I received my two free Glidden paint samples - woo hoo!
 Antique Beige and Warm Caramel

And last but not least...we needed a new office chair. Mr. Paisley is VERY hard on furniture. I swear i've had the same chair at work for 5 years. The fancy one at home...maybe 3. It's AWFUL. Right now you have to sit gingerly...and then balance yourself. I'm quite certain that one of us will go to sit down one day and the seat will no longer be attached to the base.  We have one of the fancy manager chairs with the stretchy open weave mesh back. The leather ones get too hot...as long as I live in FL you will not find a leather chair in my office. So I've been chair hunting for awhile. I've been watching the sale fliers every Sunday and the chairs that are on sale always have crappy reviews online. I decided I was not going to spend another $150 on a chair that falls apart. I decided I really liked the Pottery Barn chair...but it's $399...not including shipping.

Yeah...add $100 to that and I can make a mortgage payment on the cabin.

Then I thought...VINTAGE! So of course I went ISO on Craig's List. Where I found this gem
For $10!
The ad says
Old Chair it has Cast Iron hardware
Chair swivels & rocks

Certainly looks like it could have been the inspiration for the PB chair now doesn't it? No casters...probably easy enough to add...

Then I popped into my favorite junque shop by the office - Community Thrift Store - the very same one where I lucked into Midori's cage a couple weeks ago.  What do I see?

This...for $18.81 and it came home with me. It appears as though a dog had a little nibble to one leg there, but nothing that can't be sanded down. It's got some nick and the arms need to be tightened up, but otherwise it's solid. I don't love the seat cover...but I can unscrew that and recover it in nothin' flat. Now I just have to decide what finish I want. Stain? Paint? Color? I'm thinking it might stay "as is" until I get my new desk...no sense in doing it twice.

Origin:

1.  register. List, catalog, inventory, roll, schedule  imply a definite arrangement of items. List  denotes a series of names, items, or figures arranged in a row or rows: a list of groceries. When I Google "list" I get:
Craig's List
Angie's List
List interface for Java 2 platform
Top 10 Lists
and dozens of other things

Mr. Paisley is not a fan of my lists. I have lots of them. I have them everywhere. I keep spiral notebooks in the vehicles, the house, the cabin, my purse...I even have a holiday list. This is where I make notes about gifts i've purchased throughout the year so I know what I have and for who...in theory to make Christmas shopping less dramatic...errr traumatic!

I like to write. As in physically write (sort of becoming a lost art kind of writing). I still mail hand written thank you cards. I like stationary...

Back to the lists.

I need lists - they help me keep things in perspective. They keep me sane. They help me remember.

I make lists at home for chores, for shopping, for organizing, for packing...I make lists at work because 10 people are pulling me in 20 directions and if I don't write it down, chances are it's not going to get done.

Right now i'm thinking it's Thursday night, Mr. Paisley is making dinner, i've already been in the hot tub (the new jets came today - woo hoo!), I have my pre-annual review at work tomorrow (this would be the one where you evaluate yourself, plead your case to your manager and then they do their own evaluation). We have a trip coming up, we have to move out of our old storage unit and into a new one - before said trip of course). Lists...i'm making several tonight. One for me, one for Mr. Paisley, one for the house, one for the trip...

So much to do - so little time. The lists just make me feel like I have it all under control (there's a false sense of security if there every was one!)

Here's my list of things that need to find there way onto lists tonight
  • clean out truck
  • detail truck (seriously, it's gross and I don't like dirty vehicles)
  • set up mail and newspaper hold
  • collect paper to sort (does paper breed in your house? I swear I take a big box or basket around the house each week and gather up all the paper - newspaper, coupons, recipes, notes, lists, bills, cards, magazines, etc to sit and sort while catching up on something on the DVR)
  • dishes
  • start laundry
  • ebay listings
  • file paperwork
  • set up roofer
  • pack for trip
  • set up pet sitters
  • clean cages
  • dust
  • vacuum
  • catch up on coupon clipping / filing
  • order new phone
  • buy netbook
  • BJs
  • Publix
  • CVS
  • Deposit check
  • Refinish and re-cover new office chair (you'll see that in another post)
  • Finish breadbox (another project you'll see here at some point)
  • Pick out new mailbox
  • Trim trees over driveway
  • Trim dead stuff out of palm trees
  • Gas for grill
  • Charge camera batteries
There's a peek into my next few days...just the tip of the iceberg of course. The list never ends...
