To demonstrate support for the people, businesses and culture of the Gulf Coast, CMT will telecast a free musical celebration live from the beach at Gulf Shores, Ala. CMT Presents Jimmy Buffett & Friends Live from the Gulf Coast will air on CMT on Thursday, July 1, from 8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT. Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band will be joined in the concert by his friends Zac Brown, Kenny Chesney and Sonny Landreth. Other performers will be announced as additional plans develop. Part 2~
Tickets will be available starting on Wednesday June 23rd for Jimmy Buffett’s free concert from the beach in Gulf Shores, Ala. Tickets will be available via www.CMT.com, Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets starting at 10 a.m. CDT on Wednesday.
The concert will feature performances by Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Allen Toussaint, Sonny Landreth, Jesse Winchester and additional special guests.
A statement from concert organizers listed a four-ticket limit, and tickets are required for entry. Concert organizers plan to distribute as many as 35,000 tickets to the event.
However, Ticketmaster.com listings for the concert indicate a six-ticket limit. Ticketmaster.com also indicates that gates will open at 3 p.m. for a 5 p.m. show, so those in attendance apparently will get more show than those watching from home.
For those unable to make it to the show, performances will be simulcast live on Radio Margaritaville, available on Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, and streamed live on www.CMT.com. CMT also plans to rebroadcast the concert several times throughout the Independence Day holiday weekend.
In a statement released by concert organizers, Buffett said, “there are always welcome breaks in every storm but the unfortunate reality is that this disaster is not going away for a while — but a few hours of fun, void of the constant reminders of the situation, is a good thing and that is basically what I do.”
“CMT Presents Jimmy Buffett & Friends: Live From the Gulf Coast” is scheduled to broadcast live nationwide on CMT from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 1 on the public beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Encore rebroadcast on July 2 at 6 p.m., July 3 at 8:30 a.m., July 4 at 1 p.m. and July 5 at 10:30 a.m. Excerpts and artist interviews will be available at CMT.com

Part 3~
Just days after the news broke of the disaster BP created in the Gulf Coast area, Jimmy Buffett teamed up with Vero Beach boat builders Dragonfly Boatworks to design and build special “S.W.A.T” boats to help rescue the wildlife in the area. (Read full article here)
Today Mark Castlow, owner of Dragonfly Boatworks in Vero Beach, announced that BP has put a stop to their efforts.
Dragonfly Boatworks was scheduled to launch their 2nd of four S.W.A.T.( Shallow Water Attention Terminal) boats for use by the University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. Unfortunately, BP’s Incident Command Center has halted Dragonfly’s efforts to save the wildlife BP has single-handedly destroyed.
If you missed the Dragonfly Boatworks episode of Anderson Cooper 360 Tuesday night, it will be rebroadcast Wednesday, June 23 at 10 p.m on CNN.
Part 4~
All 35,000 free tickets for Jimmy Buffet’s Gulf Coast Relief Concert were gone in less than ten minutes.
Thousands of disappointed fans flooded Ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster outlets only to find out the tickets were already gone.
Within minutes, the free tickets started showing up on eBay and Craig’s List for hundreds of dollars.
Free tickets to Jimmy Buffett’s Gulf Coast Relief Concert will be removed from eBay, according to a statement released by the company.
“While eBay in many cases allows the listing of event tickets that are initially distributed for free, we did not feel that the resale of free tickets to the Gulf Coast benefit concert was appropriate or consistent with the charitable spirit of the event,” the company said in a statement.
A spokesperson for the company said eBay is in the process of removing existing ticket listings from the website, and they have put “measures in place to try to capture new listings from going live.”

Part 6~
I'm a Parrothead. If you look at my iPod there are more Jimmy Buffett songs on it than anything else (and I currently have just under 3500 songs on my iPod). I'm also a native Floridian and thus far have held my tongue when it comes to this oil spill...if you can still call it a "spill" - the Exxon mess was a spill. There was a limit as to how much oil there was going to be...the spill in the gulf has continued to spill for weeks and it's a complete disaster. It's destroying our (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and probably Texas and Mexico as well at some point). It will take years and years for the gulf, the coast line and the creatures of the sea to recover. The last straw for me was having this whole mess blamed on me...and you - the consumers. Evidently, WE (not the government) should have been dictating the rules and regulations for drilling off the coast. Evidently WE (not the government) should have administered the regulations and then policed the rigs to make sure the oil companies that are pocketing record profits were not cutting corners in order to save a few bucks because "eh - nothing will happen and if it does, we'll figure it out" How is it that you don't have a back up plan? How is it that your business models aren't even current with contact information? I was always FOR drilling off Florida's coast, but I was also of the mindset "we need to do it before someone else does it - that way we can regulate it and know it's being done responsibly" - Hmmmm....

I'll leave it at that. I don't particularly want politics on my blog.

Back to Jimmy Buffett. I *heart* Jimmy! That's no secret. I once had a job interview with Caribbean Soul and SOMEHOW I didn't get the job. Major bummer - my interview was on Halloween. The guy that interviewed me was in a full tux with devil horns (the movie kind that you rubber cement to your head), and tail. He was also barefoot. During the open door interview I also witnessed a SuperSoaker water gun fight in the hall. Seriously...I still want to know WHY I DIDN'T GET a RECEPTIONIST job there?! Actually...it was because I was a wee bit (ok a lot) over qualified...but DUDE! Who cares?! I was all about it. Oh well...fast forward what seems like a million years and my mom ends up working with a guy who has "friends in high places". He also happens to have an in with someone at CS. He randomly sends me CS goodies...one of a kind pieces - be still my Parrothead heart. I finally got around to framing a few...so here are my treasures...these two are the original artwork prints on ummm whatzitcalled - something like fusible webbing or stabilizer type fabric that you use when you do embroidered logos or applique type stuff on t-shirts.
